Here is a simple picture If you look in the back of the device yoiu should see the word Slave just put that white thingy in there. All you have to do is take it out and put it into the right slot.dhale001.......We would be PLEASED to provide details if you tell us ....whay you mean by make the slave drive work? Is it a second hard drive or a second cd-rom/dvd

If you have an IDE cable which will take a slave drive (grey connector) then set your original drive to Master and set your new drive to slave and plug it in.
However some systems SUPPORT Cable Select and you set both drives to cable select.
