PLZ helpHow about some information. Speed and memory configuration of the machine, O/S in use, how the SECOND drive was installed, etc. For 2K or XP, you can check Device Manager and see if the IDE channel in question is running in UDMA mode. If not, that's the basic problem, we'll need to address that. im running an Windows Xp it was installed as a secondary not to be used as primaryHave you checked Device Manager under ATAPI CONTROLLERS to see if the drive is running in DMA mode?If the drive is on the secondary controller, it will run at the slower speed of your CDROM drive. Set your hard drives as primary master with slave, and primary slave, and you should get maximum speed out of both drives on a 80-line 40-pin UDMA cable set. Also make sure they are both set to DMA mode in Device Manager.Actually, with any reasonably modern ATAPI CD, that's not true. The only issue is during the actual transfer of DATA from a specific device. I have a machine with an ATAPI CD-RW drive that runs UDMA-2 and a MAXTOR hard disk that runs UDMA-6 on the same channel.
