Answer» Hi, I have a pc runings XP home, its about 5 years old. When I go to boot up any programs, it takes forever to boot up. It also takes forever to SHUT down my system. This just started happening, have not installed any new software or hardware. Also I have noticed that I have to reboot my modem atleast 3 times a day to or I get can not find page when I try to surf the NET. Im thinking it might be my motherboard or memory. WOULD appreciate any and all advice.
Thanks EdHow much RAM, hard drive space, etc.? What protection do you have?Download, install & update... CLEANUP Ccleaner (During install, uncheck the Yahoo Toolbar option) (After install, set Options>Advanced> 'Uncheck the 48 hour box') ANTI SPYWARE Adaware Spybot S&D ANTI VIRUS AVG Free (After install, set Options to 'scan all FILES') ANTI TROJAN Ewido for W2K & XP or A-squared a² for 98 & ME (Winall)
Turn off System Restore if applicable. (ME & XP users)
Run Ccleaner Run Ad-Aware Run Spybot Run AVG Free Run Ewido or a-squared (a²) Re-start in Safe Mode Re-run AVG Free
Re-start in Normal Mode Turn on System Restore if applicable. (ME & XP users)I did all of this and still doesnt load programs like it should. I did notice a few days ago that I got an memory error message when I left my pc on over night. Could I have a problem with my memory? Is there anyway to finding out what kind of memory I have without taking it out of the case? Any ideas on where to purchase memory online ?
Thanks
EdDownload Memtest86+ and burn the .iso to a DVD with burning software. Boot off the CD and run the scan through 3 times. Any errors is faulty RAM.
To find what RAM you have you can use CPU-Z.
If you do need to purchase new RAM I don't know seeing you haven't mentioned where you live. But most likely www.newegg.com.
