Solve : Something wrong with my friend's computer? |
|
Answer» WELL I have no idea what it might be but as fast as he tries to start the computer, something is starting to do a loud noise sounding like one of those smoke detectors you have on your roof. I think it's the GFX card, but have no idea why it's happening .. Shed some light ?Need full system specsManufacturer: HP-Pavilion Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5200+ (2 CPUs), ~2.6GHz Memory: 2046MB RAM Hard Drive: 940 GB Total Video Card: Radeon X1700 SE Monitor: HP 22" Wide Sound Card: Realtek Digital Output (Realtek High Definition Audio) Speakers/Headphones: Keyboard: HID-tangentbordsenhet Mouse: Creative Fatal1ty USB Optical Mouse Mouse Surface: Operating System: Windows Vista™ Home Premium (6.0, Build 6000) (6000.vista_rtm.061101-2205)The only thing on the video card that would make that kind of sound would be a fan. Does the computer work fine otherwise?I would suggest, removing the side of the case and listening to each fan in TURN. I'm sure then you will locate the noise. Let us know when you have located the sound. Nah it's not a fansound, more like "peeeeeeeeeeeep", and the hting is he can't start the computer whatsoever. When you say he cannot start the computer, are you saying NONE of the fans are spinning. If they are spinning, how far does the computer get to booting into windows. Do you get anything on the monitor? Is this a bios beep? Also, what makes you think its the graphics card?Alright, answers : 1.The fans are not spinning 2.The computer doesn't show anything on the monitor 3.Don't think it's a bios beep, sounds bit like a fire alarm. Not that loud though.Check the power supply. It may have gone out.More specificly what do you want me to check the powersupply for? any special SIGNS or something ?Power supplies are not meant to be user or even computer tech serviceable. You'll have to SWAP it out with another known working power supply from another computer and see if it works then.So nothing on your computer is working at all, apart from this loud noise? If your cpu fan isnt spinning, then its down to the psu, motherboard, or the heatsink fan. what where you doing prior to this happening. Loose RAM is another possibility... Until we know exactly what he's been doing inside the machine it's just guesswork. |
