Solve : sound card issues?

Answer»

I've been having this problem for awhile. My computer will work fine for awhile and play sounds from webpages, winamp & other music players and then at times it will just stop and won't play sounds except through dBpowerAMP and a few other things (emptying my recycle BIN) until I restart the computer. Anyone know what could be causing this or how to fix it?Have you scanned for Viruses, Trojan Horses and spyware?

How has this happened?

Virus scanners
AVG Free

Trend Micro Housecall
-- ONLINE anti virus scanner.

Anti spy/malware
Microsoft Antispyware

when i was using that to test the sound i got a message saying "your sound card does not support hardware buffering. sounds will only play back from software buffers."

could that be it? should i just get a new sound card?Only if you promise to send me your defect soundcard.

I think you should just download new drivers. It's cheaper. Quote

sorry for being really dumb about this but which drivers should i download? What is the name of your soundcard?

Go to driverguide.com, they have a good selection. or microsoft.com, worked for me. And my computer didn't know what soundcard I had Adriana, you should use Everest Home Edition in the future. This will help you determine what hardware is installed even without using (the proper) drivers. Quote

i guess it's either sigmatel or via ac'97?via ac97 sounds like a winner. Quote

In that case, read this   page carefully.ok i figured out i have an amd athlon processor and the intel site is of no use to me i guess. i went to the amd site and none of the driver updates they had were compatible with my machine. this sounds like more work than it's worth. haha Quote
