Answer» Ok, I know that my sound card actually is AND isnt' working. When i do the sound test I get sound from my speakers, but for anything else i get nothing. I don't think this is a very complicated problem (although obviously I don't know what to do), can anyone help me?When did this problem start? Did you make any hardware or software changes just before the problem started? Have you checked to see whether any sound sources are muted in your volume control panel? This problem started today (31st) I had added in a new sound card, i meant to MENTION that, and since my other sound card was jsut part of the motherboard i jsut tried to disable it and use the one i installed, i'm not sure how well i did that though. Nothing is muted though, i checked every sound control on my computerDid you disable the onboard sound in the BIOS?1. What sound card do you have?
2. What do you test the sound on other than Sound Test?
The second question is rather important, since obviously these speakers are wired correctly, their driver is installed (you did install drivers, right?), and you get sound from Sound Test. (I'm guessing you have something with Creative in the name, since that's the only brand I know that has a program called "Sound test".)Street- i believe i did disable it, but is there anything i need to enable for the sound card?
Dilbert- i have a diamond xtreme sound 5.1 sound card i installed the drivers it's c-media pci audio i believe, i just go to audio configurations in it and it has a little speaker test in it. Exactly how did you "disable" onboard sound?
Run dxdiag (Start, Run, dxdiag, and hit Enter) and do the sound tests. Were they successful? When it was STARTING up i entered my systems BIOS setup went to Integrated Periphials and DISABLED it.
I RAN dxdiag, sound 1 and sound 2 tests didn't work, then i went to music in dxdiag and specifically chose Xtreme sound PCI Audio Device and the test worked. I looked and the Xtreme sound PCI Audio Device is not the default port though, any idea how to make it so?OK thank you everyone, i managed to find out how to make it the default device, it's working quite nicely nowHow is that done?I went to control panel >sounds, speech, and audio devices>sounds and audio devices>Audio>sound playback default device and i just changed it to the one i had installed
