Answer» I just bought a second computer which happens to be second hand. Everything is fine with it except for one thing. I can play mp3 files and mpeg files and mov files and various others but when i attempt to play a asf or wmv video FILE or even listen to something over the net it makes this really loud unbearable squeeling sound for every single file ending with those extensions. Im at a lost ive tried installing codecs but just cannot seem to fix it. If anyone could help me with this it would be much appreciated.
Regards
EdenEden, which video card do you have? Can you tell me the name and manufacturer please?
[glb]Flame[/glb]Thankyou very much for takign the time to read and reply to my msg. I never even thought of the video card just thought of the sound card. My video card says its a ATI 3d rage pro agp 2x. Hope this helps.
Regards
EdenOh man! aaaahhhhh!!! I MESSED up! Sorry! I meant SOUND card... Not video... What was I thinking?! lol [glb]Flame[/glb]No problem mate, its an ESS1869 PLUG and play.Ok.... Who is the manufacturer (or was it already included?) Do they have a website? If so then try going to their webiste and updating your sound drivers...
[glb]Flame[/glb]Yeah its ESS. Ive updates the drivers but still doesnt work. im lost. What program are you using to listen to the music?
[glb]Flame[/glb]Well its not the music, music is fine its just asf and wmv video files. Im using windows media player but ive also tried real player and it has the same problem. Should i maybe just get a new sound card?So... You installed these codecs? http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/format/codecdownload.aspx
If you're only having problems with wmv/asf, chances are, you're having problems with WMP. Maybe you can reinstall WMP or something... That'll hopefully fix it...THANKS for the advice. I DOWNLOADED the codec that didnt work so i unistalled media player and re-installed it and that didnt work. Im at a complete loss.Just another note. After playing a .wma file which is just audio it was also making that high pitch defning sound which suggests its only files that are directly related to windows media player. But what does that mean? ive re-installed it, ive done everything i can think of but it still doesnt work. Anybody have any ideas?
Thanks
