Solve : SPLIT HARD DRIVE??

Answer»

I bought an Acer with a 160 gig drive, but it is seperated into two 80 gig drives.  The first is designated as:
ACER (C) and ACERDATA (D).  the latter doesn't seem to have anything in it, by programs etc are in the ACER (C).  Can I USE the ACER DATA (D) to store files, etc?  Thank You..Simple Answer - Yes.

However, you cannot simply move the programs over to D drive, they will need to be uninstalled, and reinstalled on the other partition.

However, if you have any media (like pictures, videos, movies, ect....), you can move them to D Drive.
This may free up a lot of space on your primary partition, C Drive. Quote from: Carbon Dudeoxide on October 05, 2008, 10:24:34 PM

Indeed. You may store your installers in D Drive too.Well, I would not do that until I knew why the drive was there.
Are you short on drive space? With 80 GB?  Quote

So, what would you do?

The original poster told us there was nothing on the D drive.

No one STATED anything about being short of drive space.  The original poster is just trying to figure out how to better manage his computer. Before you go any further and format/erase that other partition check your Owner's Manual...chances are that contains the Restore files for that machine including whatever OS shipped with that Acer...reason you cannot see them is it's normally hidden.

Follow the guidelines in the manual for creating a BOOTABLE Restore CD...make 2...i for everyday use and one for safekeeping just in case.

Then you can wipe it and use it for whatever you want...ive got a similar situation with a partitioned drive except i want to know if its possible to reallocate space from one to the other
my D drive is my recovery disk and my C is where everything else is and id like to take 2 gigs from the D and put it on the C.
is that even possible or do i have to erase the D in order to use the space?OK. Here is my best answer. Been there, done that.
Or, a good partition in the workspace is worth more than two in the trash. Quote from: dingoizdead on October 06, 2008, 03:10:11 PM

It would be best to start your own Topic and include as many details as you can so it can recieve the proper attention...
