Answer» Anyone know why a computer would make squealing sounds? Basically, and time I move the mouse pointer, or execute a command the computer sqeals. It's not very loud but it's still annoying.. It spueals occasionally when the computer is idle, also.
I replaced the harddrive last night because I thought that was the problem, but that did not correct the problem. I checked to see if any cables are rubbing against the CPU fan, but everythinig there is OK.
Can you identify where the sound is coming from?
Also, what kind of sound is it? Is it a spinning sound, rubbing sound, sound of two things hitting each other? It's like a combination of Chirps and Squeals. It's sounds like it is something spinning, but I cannot comfirm that....I tried stopping the CPU fan with my hand for a SECOND and the noise continued, so I don't think it's the CPU fan. I put my ear up to the power SUPPLY fan, and it doesn't seem to be coming from there. There is NO DISK in the optical DRIVE, so there is no disk in there spinning.....I took a second LOOK inside the computer and can't seem to pin-point the noise. NO disk in the Floppy drive either. It is very high-pitch, but very quite.
The CPU and motherboard are brand new....just put them in about a month ago.....don't know if that might have to do anything with it..
I have had experience with squeaking sounds coming from my computer. It turned out to be the fan.
Is it possible to can take the computer out, lay it down on the floor, and turn it on to see where it is coming from?I'll try that tomorow...........been drinking Old English beer and now I'm pooped ......I'll post back later
thanksYou might swap out your power supply to see if thats the problem.....Power supply transformers will make a high pitch squeal, as do power supply fans and whistling capacitors inside the supply......or peel back the labels on the fans and add a drop of oil to the bearings.I swapped out the PSU and apparently it worked... I no longer here the irritating sauealing sound.
thanks all
