Solve : Strange mouse issue?

Answer»

I just bought the Logitech M-CW47 mouse and got it in the MAIL today. When I connected it to our old computer (HP Pavilion 7285, 200mhz with Windows 95), it was detected in the Logitech control panel as a Mouseman Wheel with four programmable buttons. (That's what it should be, right?)

Now, an interesting problem. When I ran Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II, I tried to make the Z-axis (the wheel) make the game view PITCH up and down. When I did that, I was able to look up or down, but not both. Pressing any of the buttons also CAUSES the view to go all the way up or down, depending on what direction the view would have gone to when the scroll wheel was rotated. Same thing if I tried to move the mouse left or right in an attempt to look left or right.

Not only that, but the thumb button (button #4) would not make me crouch if I went to the controls and put that in for button 4. Under the Logitech control panel, there's several different things that button 4 can do. I'd have to find out what command needs to be given to get that to work right.

Re-installing the game didn't fix this problem. The same problem also happens in Quake II, and thus it is a driver issue. The buttons work fine under Windows directly.Did you install the Logitech drivers ? ?Yes. I installed Logitech Mouseware 8.30. (I got it from Driverguide.com) Quote from: Ryan on September 18, 2008, 09:25:28 PM

Yes. I installed Logitech Mouseware 8.30. (I got it from Driverguide.com)

Why not the ones that ship with the mouse ? ?
I don't exactly trust DriverGuide.

Disclaimer: This is an opinion and meant as such and is no in no way to be construed as a slam against Driverguide nor any of their staff, shareholders or other Co. employees including the janitor.I currently don't have a driver CD, and I don't have the one that originally came with the Logitech M-CW47.

I don't trust DriverGuide normally. I don't download from them unless I don't have the driver CD or floppy. One such case when I did use a driver from there was when I upgraded the driver for the Diamond Monster 3D. The original drivers didn't work well enough, and the upgrade fixed a potentially annoying graphic issue. (No need to mention that here.) That was a few weeks before I upgraded to the Monster 3D II.

I had contacted somebody from Logitech through their forums, and asked regarding the mouse. They suggested MouseWare 9.791. Well, I checked regarding hardware compatibility with that release of the drivers, and they are not compatible with Windows 95. I remembered that MouseWare 9.73 was the last release of the drivers that would work with Windows 95.

I had ordered a driver disc of MouseWare 9.6 off of eBay. It says on the disk that it will run on Windows 95, so no worries there. So if I can't get the full 4-button and scroll wheel functionality in Jedi Knight, I'm going to put away the M-CW47 mouse and STICK with the S35 mouse until I think about changing the operating system to Windows 98SE.From WHENCE did you buy a mouse, that they did not include the driver CD?

Let me go look at the Logitech website.

Here's a LINK to a Logitech forum in which a support specialist recommends a link that lets you download software. I'm going to let you read the thread and see if you want to try the recommended download. It's going to be tough to find Win95 drivers but Here would be the best place to start...Patio, that page was actually my topic on the Logitech forum. The person on that forum that replied said to use version 9.79, and that version of MouseWare is not compatible with Windows 95. (My computer's operating system told me.) I'm going to keep an eye on eBay until I see the M-CW47 with its original driver disc.Small World huh ? ?
