Non-real timei think i may of got it. now my pc cam with XP on it i do not have a disic the disc is  ont he HDD. now in my mind thats not safe. But could this second hard drive be the xp disc so to speak? If your camera is connected, it may pick that up as a Hard Disk Drive.

It also detects my external HDD as Windows storage media.no my camera isnt attached. it looks totaly like another INTERNAL drive. and the funny thing is its called a Hidden drive. i may have a look inside some time soon to see if i can point a finger at it.. What hardware devices are connected and what brand is your computer? My computer is a Packard Bell Iextreame.

The hardware pluged in is a Keyborad, Monitor, a sindwinder joystick and a WebcamPackard Bell may have added a hidden partition to use your recovery software with. Refer to the computer manual.yeh i have cheaked it out. and thats what it it. It has all the system recovery stuff on it Quote

It is a hidden drive partition which contains the software that came with your computer. Many OEM makers do this.

Do you have a Recovery disk, or do you have the means of making Master Recovery CDs from this partition so that the 4 Gb can be used as data storage?

If you have, and do make the Master CDs, then you are faced with re-partitioning, re-formatting,  and re-installing the entire system.

Having the CDs with all of the software OFF the drive IS safer, but if the drive fails you will need to re-tattoo any new drive in accordance with the OEM system to be able to use them, unless you make a drive image of the original install, preferably BEFORE adding any other software.

Don't include ANY personal details.

Just run the Help and Support to make sure that it will open later.
Right ok, Well my pc didnt come with the master CDs
When i had to scrub it all i tap F11 during setup and i can pick scrub and system restore etc.

So how do i make master Cds?My system is made by Packard-Bell too.

Look for Packard-Bell> Smart Restore on your Menu where there should be three icons. One for making a technical serivces floppy diskette. One for running check sums on the Master CDs and one for making the Master CDs.

ONLY use GOOD QULAITY CDRs and NOT CD-RWs, as the data can fade over time.

When the job is complete run the check-sums to make sure that the Master CDs are in good order.

You may then see the other drive show up as Restdone D:

This drive partition is not stable so when you do a re-install it will be deleted automatically.

If you want to partition you may need to use third party software to accomplish the job.

When I last did this on a Packard-Bell I just did a full OEM unattended install which made just the one drive C:

I then used TeraByte Unlimited's BootIT NG partition RESIZER on a floppy to shrink the partition down to 10240 MB and used XP's Drive Management to allocate the rest of the unallocated drive space. You do NOT need to install BootIT NG's boot manager, so cancel the install screens and go to the Partition Work button.

Make an extended partition first of all and then add, up to three, logical drives. You can FORMAT these using Drive Management too.

If you buy the BootIT NG suite you will get Image for Windows and Image for DOS to make and restore drive images and backups. Well worth the US$ 60.So with these CDs if i get a bigger HDD will i be able to put XP on that hard drive? Because thats the problim i want a 200 gig drive but i dont acually have windows XP install disk. That disc is on the HDD (the hidden one i think) So will this packard Bell Smart disk make that for me?
