Solve : Sudden spike in cpu temp?

Answer»

Hi, I have SpeedFan and Asus Probe II installed to monitor my CPU temps. my CPU normally runs at 40C at idle, and when given a load with Prime 95 torture test it will run at 55c. But for no apparent reason, suddenly I look at my CPU temp and it's shot to 80c under a NORMAL load Speedfan is showing my fan speeds are normal. I have not overclocked, I'm just checking for stability before I do .any possible reason for the sudden spike?Use real temp to monitor temps. What cpu do you have? Dont even try to oc if your temps are 40c idle. Also, clean out all of the DUST inside and reapply the thermal paste.Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU E2140 @ 1.60GHz I just cleaned it out, I was idling at 50C. What temp should I be idling at?Just dont let it go over around 60.I was thinking of buying some Arctic silver 5, would that work for me?That's top notch thermal paste.Okay, had to bring this THREAD back up.

I'm using various temp monitors, and they all show my CPU temp suddenly jump up to 80c, but my core temps are nice and cold at 29c. What's causing this?I wouldnt worry about itQuote from: cygnus1 on August 19, 2009, 05:03:31 AM

REPORTED by what App ? ?By Asus probe II and by Speedfan 4.38. They both will show the CPU increase, and show the core temps cold. Make sure that cpu fan is not running intermittent or slowing down noticably under load.....this would cause a spike that comes and goes....don't depend entirely on those fan readingsTry realtempRealtemp only shows core temps, not CPU temp. so........
Its much better then speedfan and all that stuff. If your cpu doesnt get over 60 in realtemp your fineSo, there really is no difference between CPU temp and core temp? The reason I'm so worrisome is I used to keep my PC running 24/7 until this mishap. I would like it to be running even when I leave for a few days , now I'm to scared.
