Answer» I have a CyberPower Laptop -X64-8000- P50CA1 (apparently built by Uniwill) running Vista, it has an A.M.D. MT-40 Turion CPU rated at 2.2Ghz. Recently for some unknown reason the CPU started running at 800Mhz instead of the full rated speed of 2.2Ghz. I am attaching 2 snapshots of CPU-Z before and after settings. The Bios in my laptop does not allow any form of overclocking or any other way to modify CPU or other advanced settings, just the basic setup stuff. I can't figure out why the CPU got throttled back and don't know how to restore it to the original settings. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
[Saving space, attachment deleted by admin]That's normal for an AMD processor. Most if not all AMD processors will say that it's clocked at half the speed when idle, and when there's a load, it performs at it's full speed.Pff that's useless power saving if that's the case, i would hate that and disable it... Look under your power management settings in your BIOS and under windows and set to always on.
If that isn't the case, I suggest checking your computer isn't overheating, performance can drop for SAFETY reasons due to that! Check the fans aren't clogged with dust, spinning, etc.1. You MAY DOWNLOAD software to monitor the temperature sensors of your computer to check for "overheating". I'm assuming CPU would throttle down if it sensed higher temperatures. a. http://www.filehippo.com/download_speedfan/ b. http://www.cpuid.com/hwmonitor.php
2. You're using two different versions of "CPU-Z" (for your displays) to make your case. Can't tell if your laptop throttles down or the two versions just report differently.Yes I have upgraded my CPU-Z version since the first report, maybe the problem is with CPU-Z reporting the data differently with each different version, but I doubt it. I will look into changing my power options in my Bios if I can. Will post an update as SOON as I can.
