Answer» Hi!
My current PROBLEM is that I must move a hard drive from one computer to another.
My computer and ALMOST all of my software was stolen in a break-in. A friend has given me his old computer (complete with the hard drive which he wants back to install in his new machine as a second drive) and I am trying to install an old drive I replaced with a larger one I put in the stolen unit.
The stolen machine was an MDG with a P4 Celeron integrated graphics motherboard. I wish I could give more info but didn't save a hard copy of the specs. It ran at 3.08GHz and had 1 GB of RAM
The "new" machine is a Compaq Evo D510 SFF Pentium 4 2.4oGHz with 504 MB RAM and the same integrated graphics. The HD I am trying to install is a Western Digital WD 800. It has XP MEDIA Edition with Service Pack 3 installed.
When I installed it I got a black screen with flashing cursor. It won't accept any input.
I am "retired" on a small medical PENSION so new purchases are pretty much out of the question for me.
Any help would be vastly appreciated!
Bob
You cannot simply put in a drive from a different system and expect the new system to boot. You need to boot to an OS cd, format the old drive, and install a new operating system.
