Solve : Swapping HDD to another computer? |
|
Answer» I have an old HP Pavilion celeron 533meg pc on which I'm running Windows XP with an 80gig hdd and 192meg ram. I also have an Optima celeron 1.2gig pc running Windows 2000 with a 20gig hdd and 256meg ram. I want to swap the larger hdd with all my programs and files to the 1.2gig machine and run XP. In my ignorance I tried just swapping the 80gig hdd for the 20 but the pc just hung before Windows started. What is the best and easiest (for the dumbies) way of doing it?Put the drives in the machine as you want and THEN install Windows. Just swapping a drive is never a good idea. If I reload Windows will I have to reload all the programs? Will I loose my internet settings etc? Is there ANYTHING else that I may have to do? ThanksQuote If I reload Windows will I have to reload all the programs? Yes, not a bad iea either. Quote Will I loose my internet settings etc? This is easy enough to FIX. You can back up your address book, e-mail and favorites if you wish very easily. Quote Is there anything else that I may have to do? Thanks Enjoy a FASTER running system if you are using Win2000. XP with only 256 RAM is usable, but not a lot of fun unless you turn off the eye candy. |
