Is the hard drive recognized in BIOS?

What happens when you try to boot up Windows? Do you GET a blank screen? Quote from: program not RESPONDING on October 30, 2011, 09:55:13 PM

Very possible. HOWEVER, there are a number of other issues that can look LIKE hard drive failure. A type of virus can MAKE that happen. Don't ask why. I t happens. Hard to say if that is your problem. It is not obvious.

If you have another PC, you can download a program that you put onto a CD and it will boot your PC and look for that kind of problem.
Here is one site that offers it for free as an introduction to their products.  http://www.avira.com/en/for-home
Click on the tab that says 'free' and find instructions. Search for 'rescue' and find the page with the free download. Kind of a hassle finding it, but worth the effort. (Of course, the hope you get lost and end up buying something.)Thanks Guys!
