Solve : system stalls?

Answer»

Recently I have noticed that when I am using my computer, every so often it will stall for about 2 seconds, and then continue normally.  This doesn't happen very frequently, only about a few times per day.  I'm fairly sure its not because im overloading the SYSTEM, because it doesnt just happen when im playing games.  It also happens when I'm just browsing the internet or listening to music.  It seems different than "freezing."  It's more like its stuck.  When it happens when I have music playing, it sounds like a CD skipping, it gets stuck at one point for about 2 seconds and then resumes.  What could be causing this problem?Maintain your PC on a regular basis.

Defragment the harddrive, clean the registry, remove redundant files and scan for viruses, adware and trojans.

An inadequatly maintained PC will show signs of slow downs and other problems.

Regseekeri just built my computer about a month ago, so its fairly new.  ive been scanning for viruses and removing spyware and things on a regular basis, so im pretty sure the system is clean.  however i have 2 intake fans on my case that do no have air filters, and the case is on the floor.  im wondering if maybe dust is causing the problem? You should clean the case on a regular basis. Once a month for example. Smoking and a carpet floor will increase the amount of dust forming on the fans and heatsinks.

Keeping it away from the ground also helps, especially if the fans are blocked by other OBJECTS. Never block the airflow.

What kind of CPU is installed? Did you see to it that it has proper cooling solutions? Good thermal PASTE, well-known CPU heatsink/Fan.my cpu is a p4 3.2ghz, with the stock heatsink.  I regularly check the temperature, and during heavy load such as during games, it usually gets no higher than 50c.maybe a corupt video driver is causing this are all your drivers up to date? That is a modest temperature - nothing to worry about.

its not just the video though, it's sound as well.If you have no files to be saved, you MAY want to format and reinstall Windows XP.

If the problem still occurs, I SUGGEST you download harddrive diagnostic tools. Perhaps something is wrong with your harddrive?
