Solve : Tape Drive in WIN2K? |
|
Answer» Have Adaptec SCSI card with Compaq SDT-9000 tape drive.DDS-3(DAT). Does anyone have a clue how to access DOS commands to the tape drive? WIN2000 does not have DOS option at boot. Have Veritas software for tape backlup but want to use direct commands. Program has limitations.I think you're out of luck, you're too far from the bare metal in 2K. What specifically are you trying to do?If Win2K(NT5) can recognise the tape drive at all, you may be able to use one of the software packages that mounts the tape drive as a slow 'removable' drive much like a floppy, and use utilities like PowerArchiver, WinZip, or some of the open-source community stuff like GZip and the utilities designed to emulate UNIX TAR (Tape ARchive) on Windows. WinNT (3.5, 4, 5/2K, 5.1/XP) doesn't have real DOS command line, only that lame 'emulated' junk.Had command problems with Veritas(BackupMyPC) esp. in the GUI mode. Had to ununstall program and reinstall. Also had to TWEAK BIOS setting for the Adaptec SCSI card.,using Adaptec's Ctrl+A at boot to access it. Works FINE now. Considering buying the tape drive software for backups. Can fit 12/24 GB of DATA on one tape. Thanks. |
