Answer» So, I relatively recently bought a new gaming computer, sans wlan adapter.. so i bought a cheap netgear usb dongle. worked WONDERS for a couple months, then began sucking up massive bandwidth, lagging the entire network. ordered a http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833315109 from newegg, of course.. got it in the MAIL, installed it, installed drivers from disk... the download speed on speedtest and speakeasy is very slow. like, 1 Mbps slow. I should be getting at least 15, at best, somewhere between 15 and 25. other computers on the network are getting about 15... but not mine. download speeds are normal at about 5-7... ping is extraordinarily low. Sites load up quickly, but downloads move at the speed of a slug. how do i go about diagnosis here? ::edit1:: and a couple things i forgot... I have a sneaky thought that it is probably the hardware... which is why it is in the hardware catagory. Do you get the same issue if you try connecting using a normal Ethernet cable? I do not have the same trouble when i connect with an ethernet cable, and that is the only pcie slot i have. also, funny thing, i can play games fine with no lag and normal ping, can download much slower than normal, but not at what i would imagine 1.5 mbps to be... but on speakeasy and speedtest.net, it says im crawling on at 1.5mbps. also, for REFERENCE, on the usb adapter, i was hitting my normal (meaning what every other computer in the house was getting) 15 mbps or so... so by process of elimination, i would bet on the adapter, but it is brand new, and seems to actually work just fine.The only other thing to do is try the adapter in a different PC, and see what happens. If it's a desktop i personally prefer the PCI cards...a bit more durable.while i appreciate the attention, patio, i mentioned that i replaced the usb dongle with a PCI card, and the PCI card is the adapter with which im having the trouble. im at .5 mbps download speed now. You need to try this if no other network device is available for testing.with nothing else on the network, i get a 1.2, rather than a .5And you don't know anyone you can borrow a WLAN PCI card to test ? ?
