Solve : Terrible download speed on new pcie edimax wlan adapter? |
|
Answer» So, I relatively recently bought a new gaming computer, sans wlan adapter.. is there any way to test the adapter to see if there is something wrong with it? when i go into device manager, it says it is working correctly, and beyond that, i dont really know how to test it. Quote so i bought a cheap netgear usb dongle. These being the operative words i would replace it... If it's a desktop i personally prefer the PCI cards...a bit more durable.while i appreciate the attention, patio, i mentioned that i replaced the usb dongle with a PCI card, and the PCI card is the adapter with which im having the trouble. im at .5 mbps download speed now. Quote is there any way to test the adapter to see if there is something wrong with it?Make sure other computers are not connected by wired or wireless. These would isolate if its bandwith hogging or an adapter problem. I understand that...it's a budget low-end card...i personally would save up for a replacement...yeah, but i would think even a low end card, brand new, would work better than that. and its not bottom of the barrel low end.All i know is that in flowchart analysis it's usually best to test hardware 1st...maybe just borrow a known good card and swap it in there for a few hours...that won't cost you at least...that would be ideal, but i do not have a known good card. all i have is that cheap usb dongle, which works, but screws up the entire network. assuming that it is not a problem with the hardware, what are my options? ive tried re installing the driver multiple times now, optimizing tcp... i dont really know what else to do. windows 7 is not DETECTING that there is a problem with the hardware, or with the internet connection... the download speed is just really slow. the upload speed is ten times the download speed, which is the normal speed for upload, and ping is normal... it seems like i can play most games perfectly fine, but every once in a while it feels like the speed throttles down to zero download speed, which i can actually see sometimes with the speakeasy test. Quote Make sure other computers are not connected by wired or wireless. These would isolate if its bandwith hogging or an adapter problem. You need to try this if no other network device is available for testing.with nothing else on the network, i get a 1.2, rather than a .5And you don't know anyone you can borrow a WLAN PCI card to test ? ? |
