Solve : the death of my xps?

Answer»

I have a Dell XPS desktop system that is a little over a year old (I think)...

the other night I ran the windows dos based program that does many things...the thing I had it do was overwrite "free" disk space.Cipher.exe is the program that i used...i used the /w command .... from what researched I covered it appeared to be the command I wanted to use.

Anyhow, I woke up the next morning with a frozen screen. I simply shut down the system and turned it back on. From that moment on and now the computer will turn on BUT the monitor won't turn on w/ it, the keyboard and mouse are not detected and the fans are going at full force. The fans sound like they would when you FIRST cut on the computer for like the first few seconds but, it continues the whole time till you hold the power button for 5 sec and it shuts off. I tried to check the hardware to make sure everything was intact...it appears to be.

I guess its not going through the "POST" system

nothing is reading...monitor/keyboard/mouse

the fans are staying at full force

there is no motherboard error beeps when powered up

I can't enter BIOS or windows AT ALL, remember, the monitor is not reading, but it does work w/ my other computer as well as the keyboard/mouse...its just the xps, not the other stuff

any help would be lovedSounds to me that you have used cipher to successfully wipe your entire hard drive...
Use a bootable floppy and at the A: prompt type C:\ and hit Enter...
At the C: prompt type dir /p and hit Enter....
This will report the CONTENTS and directories on that drive.I dont have a prompt

monitor is not responding...i reseated the v-card...i tested all my monitors on my other system, they work fine

i dont have an A drive btw... just cd/DVD-roms

I am sure I could bootleg this one on this computer to the xps BUT, its pointless w/out being able to see anything

I used the /w OPTION, its only suppose to wipe areas that's already deleted or "free"/bumping for HOPEFUL helpTry f1/or f2 on boot Quote from: bigdawg24 on July 26, 2008, 02:24:39 PM

/bumping for hopeful help

You can create a bootable CD to do the same.
Download the Ultimate bootCD and follow the instructions on burning it and making it bootable.

WARNING: There are some very powerful utilities on this CD that if used improperly can render a system hosed...so use with caution.
There are a few FILE system utilities i suggest using them to view what's left on that drive.I'm not able to see the monitor.. that w/ the keyboard and mouse is not responding when powered on, so im not able to see BIOS or anything

I was told by one guy to take the ram out and turn the power on and the system would beep....it didnt beep.any other options you think?Check the LED at the power button. If its amber in color or if its blinking amber THATS a no power situation. have dell replace the mobo and PSU. just stating that I haven't found a solution yet but, when I do I will post what I have done. If anyone else has any suggestions please let me know.what model is your XPS? Ill look up the service manual of your system.
