Help. My sound card went kaput. So I guess I NEED to install a new sound card, right? Are all sound cards standard or do they vary according to computer?

And once I install the sound card , do I need to reinstall the AUDIO drivers?
What do you MEAN your sound card went kaput? We might be able to help you fix it, if you want.sorry, i meant my sound card got fried. yesterday, while I was surfing the web, I smelt a little burning smell, and the audio went silent. now when I boot up the computer, I get a pop up that says sound card is not available.

so can i just get a new sound card and put it in my computer? Or are sound cards dependant on the computer brand or TYPE? If I can put any sound card in, then after I do, do I just reload the drivers to make the sound card work properly?
Not an expert here but I think there are some differences between different cards and motherboards
