I was too until I did a little bit of digging and found this: …the molten iron produced will extract oxygen from water and generate hydrogen GAS in a single-replacement REACTION. This gas may, in turn, burn by combining with oxygen in the air. So it converts (a part of) the ice to hydrogen and oxygen and creates a massive explosion. The explosion can actually be so sudden that and forceful pieces CHUNKS of ice can launch upwards over 150 feet from the initial blast site. Pretty insane right? At first I thought it would evaporate the ice almost instantaneously...and then BOOM! An explosion!The same principle is applied when heat treating certain METALS. Especially metals that are high in iron content. The metal it heated to tempuratures that almost reach their melting point, and they are then quenched in a variety of ways. Most INCLUDE oils and salt baths. But some are quenched in water. If the temperature of the metal is too high, as soon as it is submerged into the water, BOOM! This should only happen if the metal was heated to a much higher TEMP than most heat treating methods require, but it has happened.Did Kari have the baby yet ? ?
