Answer» I've been using computers since you had to format each 5 INCH disc to use on a DOS 8088 system when a monitor upgrade was to one with orange letters on a black screen. I guess that makes me OLD.
Currently I have a Dell PC about five years old showing signs of age and a Dell laptop about a year old.
Recently I had the opportunity to use a friend's Mac desktop for some work. What a delightful experience from the IBM PC platform and all its progeny.
That experience has me CONSIDERING whether or not to replace my PC with a Mac and give my Dell laptop to a deserving person and get a MacBook.
Opinons pro and con would be appreciated. Please provide examples and compare and contrast.
Many thanks.
StanleyJ FYI-
one of my buddies got an imac 20" screen a year or so ago...it's great and with bootcamp he can also run his wxp on it...so you can have the best of both worlds...
myself...I just run one of the hacked up versions on my intel, have it dual booted with vista
at least his is legal...!!!A Mac is a good computer, so is a PC. Don't let the "I'm a Mac; I'm a PC" commercials fool you. They both have their pros and cons, both are extremely stable and useful. The difference is the price, not the usability or power. With a Mac, you're going to pay an extra $300-$800 premium. It's up to you to decide if you liked the Mac enough to pay the premium. Personally, I would recommend getting a new PC with Vista on it. Most of the poor reviews on Vista are from people that haven't used it extensively or who STILL need to get over their grudge against Microsoft. (Just ask on this forum how to turn off UAC ) I have been using Vista for about a year and from an IT perspective, find it very useful and convenient. I have all pc's my house but also replaced my ding-dong Dell with a Macbook and couldn't be happier. No spyware or viruses to worry about so the system boots a lot faster / lots of freeware (OpenOffice for one) that are cross-platform AVAILABLE. Just a nicer computer. Yes, you will pay more and it's somewhat of a learning curve but IMHO in the long run it's worth it. Alan <>< AHAA ! ! So that's where you've been hanging out...in a MAC Forum ! !
well, personally , i think that macs are great for designing work, as i do design technology at school. the bad thing about it is that not much games are up for it. what i mean is that there are a very limited list of games for macs and if there is a game you want to install, it takes much more space than a regular windows computer. this is what i think. thanks for listening!Modern macs can run Windows in a separate partition via Boot Camp.
Of course the drawback is that Macs are more expensive for inferior hardware...
