Exactly, to the letter what I did.I use an old fashion Silicone grease formulated for high power audio OUTPUT transistors. I know it says: "...apply a very thin (paper thin) layer...", but I think that's very misleading. Just put a dab on the cpu and smear it around. This is not rocket science! He even says: "...In no case, a thermal pad and thermal compound should be used together...", but makes no point as to why. That's because it's just not true and he can't back it up. I never spread the paste at all... just a little dollop in the center of the CPU. Heatsink spreads it around for me, which I believe is the idea. As long as you put the heatsink straight down rather then at a angle, in which case the paste might become unevenly applied. Finally my NEW paste arrived so I followed the instructions on artic silver and now it is not GOING over 40C any time and usually floats around 25C-30C on all CORES. Thanks for all the help - fixed!I guess paper-thin is too thin? |
