Solve : tower starts but nothing else?

I received an used computer
When I push the "on" button the machine lights up in the tower but nothing happens in the monitor or the keyboard. It is a desktop machine,like 3 years old.
What can I do to check what's WRONG with this machine.First thing i'd do is remove all power and open the case...

Heh there's patio thinking out of the box!

But I agree with him.

What are the known specs of the computer?It should still come on even with no hard drive... Just make sure all the leads especially the power cable to the motherboard are CONNECTED.

Are you saying the lights on the front of the case come on and nothing else?
