Answer» Hi, I have used CLONEHD and have copied all data from the failed disk (SMART error) to the new one. But I don't know what I've got to de next! I don't have a 'recovery/re-install disk', do I need one? Also, do I have to do something with the jumpers?...and change things in the SETUP? I would appreciate any advice! Thanks in advance, Pete What's the problem exactly? Have you already cloned your old disk ONTO a new disk? And does the new disk work?I'm not familiar with CLONEHDDOpps, hit the wrong key
I'm not familiar with CLONEHD but if you DID clone the drive then you should just be able to take out the old drive, plug in the new (with the right jumper setting) and fire up the computer. That's how Acronis True Image works and I've used it multiple times without a hitch
Alan <>< Hi, thanks for the responses so far... The original disk has failed. I BOUGHT a disk with a load pf PC Tools on it, and used the Clone HD software to copy the oriiinal disk's data onto a new disk. This prgram ran for about 4 hours and the progress bar went up to 100%. I don't know if Windows XP was also copied. I'm unsure of what to do next. I've heard of 'jumpers' but do not know anything about them except they heed to be changed. Also the system setup needs to be changed, but am not sure to what. Thanks, Pete Just set the jumper on the cloned HDD to master...hook it up at the end of the IDE cable...plug in the molex POWER connector and turn the machine on.
There should be no additional steps neccessary unless drive 1 failed during the clone.
