Solve : Transformer Blew up my computer, sort of?

Answer»

rocgrey,I am sorry to be moving in the FOLLOWING manner as it assumes that your computer (and maybe other peripherals as well ) are toast. Therefore what you may WISH to investigate is whether your household insurance will cover the replacement of the affected equipment. If so don't forget any of it including the surge suppressor. In the same vein often these surge suppressors come with often seemingly astronomical guaranty in the event of a failure to "protect" the computers connected to them. Figures like $15,000-$25,000 come to mind. I would make some phone calls to find out what coverage you have and go from there.Goodluck, truenorth
P.S. Don't delay as timing of claim might affect the outcome.Have you tried booting to a bootable CD yet to see what happens ? ?
Win2K is a bootable CD provided it's from Microsoft.

I had an identical call this weekend for a customer...nothing on screen period.
I was able to get it back up and running with a boot CD i made with the RECOVERY Console on it.
Ran chkdsk /r and although it took about 3 hours his system was restored without any other maintenence,

In his case it was a LIGHTNING strike but similar nonetheless. Thanks north, I'm already headed in the direction of my insurance.  You know you get to the point where it's so frustrating it's easier to go a different route such as just get a NEW one. (won't hurt my feelings)

Patio,  my brother came over and tried what you said last night, nothing.

It's TOAST, I'm through with it, but it was definitely worth all the effort and ideas you guys have given me and I really appreciate it.

Thanks
