This indicates to me, that the IDE bus is being "corrupted" by a bad device. Remember, you said: "...cylinder light on the left of my power button that lights up red..." That light indicates IDE bus activity and is only solid-red during BIOS detection. It flashes the rest of the time. 3. Once one things goes bad, everything goes bad.So basically my computer is screwed, and I should just get a new one?I thought you were here because you want to repair it.A failing/weak PSU will cause other components in the machine to strain and run HOTTER than normal...I am here to fix it but I thought that if the IDE bus is corrupted then I'd be better off buying a new computer, unless there is a way to fix that then I am all ears. I'll try a new PSU.Corrupted doesn't mean damaged. It means the data (1's and 0's) gets mixed up, so it freezes. Hit the reset button or power down and up and it starts from scratch like nothing happened. This is all under the ASSUMPTION the IDE bus has failed... Try what's been suggested first.Well, I put the PSU in and now it wont boot normal or in safe mode. Any ideas?Looking more like the hard drive is bad. I assume the new psu is connected properly, all FANS are running and you can feel the hard drive spinning or hear it spinning. You can download the hard drive manufacturer's diagnostic software to test the HDD. You want the FDD bootable version since you still have an FDD. Who makes the HDD?Hmm, well after turning the computer off and starting it again, and try it about 50 times it looks like the computer finally started to work properly again. Thanks for the help. |
