Solve : Trouble changing RAM?

Answer»

I tried to upgrade RAM and when I put in new RAM, the computer came on but the OS did not boot up and the monitor gave me a "check pc" message. I SWITCHED back to the old RAM and it did the same. What is going on and how bad did I fry something? I am semi-capable with computer components.
This is what I do know about my pc, the motherboard is AMD Duron and had 512 of RAM. I tried to replace with 2G of Ballistix DDR3 RAM. Still won't work. I may have made a HUGE mistake, can anyone help?Is the RAM properly seated ? ?THx for replying, I got some help on another siteMy YOUTUBE video shows you how to do it. See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzAjFRG7sv4 for the video. I guess you have RDRAM but tell what memory you have.Quote from: jdh on JULY 09, 2009, 03:52:31 PM

I'm pretty SURE the site you got help on told you what I'm about to tell you:

DDR3 RAM does NOT work on an AMD Duron motherboard!!!!

AMD Duron boards use one of three options:

1) PC100 SDRAM
2) PC133 SDRAM
3) DDR RAM of some flavor (NOT DDR2 or DDR3, just DDR)

Either way, go to http://www.crucial.com to find out what RAM is compatible with your board (if you haven't already)...
