Solve : Trouble Starting My Computer?

Answer»

I got my computer four years ago when I graduated from high school. It is a VPR Matrix 2250 and has ran very well for the entire time I've owned it.

Around January it started having trouble. Instead of just pressing the button on the front of the tower once and it powering on, it needed to be pressed about three or four times. It has got progressively worse and requires about five minutes of button pressing to get it to start up. Nothing is wrong with the system and everything is running as normally as it always has, but now I fear that when I TURN off my computer I will not be able to ever turn it back on.

Is this a problem with the button not being connected very well to the thing that starts it up, or is my power supply about to bite the dust? Any THOUGHTS would be appreciated greatly because I PLAN on moving soon and will have to hold my BREATH if the problem has not been solved.

Thanks in advanceQuote

Most likely causes (in order of likelihood):
  • power switch jumper not firmly connected to motherboard
  • power supply
  • power switch
  • motherboard
So after checking all your connections are sound, the next step would be for someone who knows what he/she is doing to swap the PSU. Fiddly, but not too DIFFICULT.
