Solve : Two 7600 (SLI) vs One 8800?

Answer»

I'm assembling my new PC (Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe with AMD Athlon 64 AM2 4600). The system has great POTENTIAL for upgrades in the future. My question is: I would like to install a single Nvidia 7600 series card for now and then match it with a second card in an SLI configuration. How will two 7600 card stack up with one 8800?Since I am not the huge gamer enthusiasts, I am going to do the same thing soon, (2) 7600gt's......BUT;

he'll find this post soon............Hee hee, I'm here now.
I guess I sort of replaced Track then . . .
Two 7600s will give you great performance, but they will not support the new technologies such as DX10 that the 8 series do.
Have a look at the GPU FAQ and I'll see what I can find about 2x7600s vs an 8800.
Edit: The 8800GTX beats the 7600GT in SLI.
The 7600 was a high-performance version too.
Does that go some way towards answering your question?The 8800s cost a bit more money than the 7600s of course. I'm just looking for an interim but just like "death" and "taxes", DX10 is a-coming. Since there is no time completion of my new rig, I guess the prudent thing to do is wait until I can afford to buy an 8800.

Basic components as follows:

Antec Sonata II 450W PSU
Asus [emailprotected] DeLuxe
AMD Athlon 64 AM2 4600
1 Gig DDR2 800 (PC6400)
WD Raptor 10K RPM, 74G SATA HD

I'm sure something newer and "better" will be along soon as well.
or you could also wait a little while for the other versions of the 8000 series to COME out. by the time you buy two 7600s the price wouldnt differ much from one 8800 ANYWAY, and the 8800 will definitly smoke the 7600 even in sli. plus no matter how good the 7600s are they wont run the new release games. my advice is save your $ and see what comes out in the near future.i owuld much do the same i am also a gamer and i would save my cash and wait for more 8800's
