Solve : Unable to boot from CD?

Answer»

I've tried every solution in the Unable to boot from CD section and the CD-rom has power but does not work section, except two and none seem to help me at all.

I have a virtual CD drive on my COMPUTER, and I wonder if it's trying to boot from that as well.

The two solutions I have not tried are to use a boot disk to reinstall the CD-rom DRIVERS, and to get a CD-rom cleaer.

When I did a test of the SYSTEM, it said the drive was working, but when it tried to test CDs, it said there were none in the system. I'm thinking that the CD laser might be dirty, which is why I plan on going to buy a cleaner.

Oh yes, another difficulty, all the passwords on my computer have been changed, and subsequently forgotten, which is why I need a cd to boot properly. What operating system?

Sometimes a CD drive's optics just die, although the drive may STILL openn and close. I would try another CDROM drive, just for a test, and see if that fixes it, before looking for a more exotic solution.

It sounds like you may be re-installing your OS soon anyway due to the other problems.Lach..... how about sharing with us what it is your trying to do ....or is that classified ? The crystal ball has a crack in it

dl65 Sorry, kind of frantic. Going crazy trying to solve this.

It's just a little local computer, and the system is XP. Been on vacation, and my mind's on vacation as well, and my mind was on vacation as well. Just a little home computer, and I was trying to get on to reset the password with the XP reinstallation disc, but then found the disc wasn't working.

I just came back from getting a disc cleaner, which didn't help at all. Figured I might as well try, since the site suggested it.

I was planning on trying a new cd drive tomorrow, after I can grab it from my dad's place. If that doesn't work, and the CD driver reinstallation doesn't work, I think I'm pretty much screwed. My last option would be to format the computer, and hope the cd-rom works now.
Went to fry's bought a new cd drive, and used the solution from http://pubs.logicalexpressions.com/Pub0009/LPMArticle.asp?ID=305 . There was a slight error when I typed in nusrmgr.cpl, and it would TELL me the user account was not recognized, so I used control userpassword2 and it worked like a charm.Glad you are up and running again!
