Solve : Unknown Processor Revision?

Answer»

I just bought an MSI K9N SLI motherboard but when I turn on my computer I receive this error at startup:

CMOS Checksum Bad
******* WARNING Unknown Processor Revision *******
The processor(s) installed in your system are of an unknown revision.
Please contact your BIOS vendor for appropriate updates.
Fatal Error... System Halted.

I have checked on MSI's website and it says that my AMD 5200 processor is compatible with the motherboard.

Code: [Select]Processor: AMD 5200
Motherboard: MSI K9N SLI
GPU: Nvidia 8800gts
PSU: 400w
Hard Drive 1: Hitachi 160gb IDE
Hard Drive 2: Western Digital 320gb SATACan you take the motherboard back and EXCHANGE it?

Can you take the motherboard back and exchange it?

No, I bought it online. I think I need to update the BIOS but I don't know how to without being able to enter WINDOWS itself. So you can't return it so you're stuck with it, right? For me, this is another CASE of not buying from a reputable vendor. Anyway...

Have you tried resetting the BIOS? Take out the motherboard battery for about :30, then put it back in and see if that works.

BTW - you can't update the BIOS from Windoze.

Alan <>< Checksum errors almost always mean that the CMOS battery is dead. Try replacing it.

By the way, where did you buy the mobo? LET us know so we can stay away from that site.
