Answer» so heres my problem. My computer hates mice. When i plug my mouse in it COMES up saying usb hardware not recognised.....possibly a malfunction...click here etc so i plug my mouse into another computer. it works fine. then plug a different mouse into my computer. doesnt work. So ive tried many different mice now, ive been into safe mode and no mouse works then either. Ive also reinstalled the software and done countless other things. I just cannot work out what the problem is. If anyone has any possible solutions please let me know. Many thanks chrisWelcome aboard
I assume, it's USB mouse, right? Did you try different USB ports? What Windows version?Ensure USB support is enabled in the BIOS.

The following Nirsoft utility, USBDeview, is handy in determining your past/present USB configuration as is the standard Microsoft utility, Device Manager.

After you answer the questions from "Broni", I have at least one for you.
Do any other USB devices work on your machine?hi - yep its a microsoft usb intellimouse. all the other usb peripherals are working fine. doesn't matter which usb port i use, never works. I read something about just leaving it turned off without any POWER supply for 30 mins and it seemed to do the trick..its now back to HAUNT me and even taking away the power supply for a whole day isnt working. Ive had the computer almost a year without fault. I BUILT it myself and the os is win xp with all the latest service packs and updates. All my drivers have been UPDATED and there are no conflicts within devices. Its been 2 days since i was last able to use my mouse. Any more information would be very appreciated chrisits also doing something a little odd now...when i boot up, the mouse light on the bottom lights up as if its going to work...then halfway through booting up it just goes blank and by the time windows is loaded, it doesnt work.... very strange... this is driving me crazy Travel to the store and buy a PS2 mouse....grab a PS2 keyboard while you're at it. Everyone should have one of each...Try going into BIOS and make sure "USB Legasy Device" is enabled.
