Solve : unseen d:/ drive?

Answer»

hi

i have a RECURRING problem with my d:/ drive. sometimes when i turn on my computer and look for the drive it is unseen by windows and i appear to only have a c:/ drive in my computer.

recently i sent in my computer into a workshop for a checkup and a complete reinstall of windows XP. when i asked them if they found any trouble with the d:/ drive or the cable they said no it is fine, so i asummed this problem was sorted and it was simply an OS issue. but i have just TRIED to install software today and i noticed that it has gone "missing" again but no doubt it will be found by windows again sometime in the future by itself. i have never installed any drivers or firmware to the drive. what can i do to "find" my drive again?

p.s the model of my drive is an LG CD-RW and maybe 5 years old. thanksGo to LG's website for UPDATED drivers. Also, which operating SYSTEM are you using? Was it fine until you installed a certain program? Do you have virus and spyware protection?

Flame"Go to LG's website for updated drivers."

i tried that but it said not to install any firmware if your drive is unseen specifically in its readme

"Also, which operating system are you using?"

windows xp

"Was it fine until you installed a certain program?"

i haven't installed that much onto my computer yet since i got it back from the workshop (15gb) but i am not sure of this.

"Do you have virus and spyware protection?"

yes5 years is a long time for CDRW's these days. You can try it in another machine and see if it works, but I suspect it won't. That is the ultimate test. The mechanics may be fine (opens and closes) and it still can be a worthless, dead drive.yes dvd rw's are very cheap to buy and i will probably buy one soon.

in the meantime though my drive has just reappered suddenly (i used CCLEANER on the registery so maybe this would have made the difference) so now everything is fixed. thanksCome back and see us if you have any questions
