Solve : upgrade cpu in Dell pentium3?

Answer»

I'm still INTERESTED in upgrading my cpu from 450MHz to 733MHz and I am told that if the cpu speed is not in bios then remove computer battery - replace it - and cpu speed will be in bios and I can change it. Is this correct? You want to overclock? Dells have locked BIOS. Mabye theres a way around itIf the motherboard supports a CPU, you can install it. There is no switch in the BIOS you need to change.

@CR He never said anything about overclocking...WELL the part about the cpu speed in the bios sounded like overclocking to meTrue. If by "upgrade" he means to just change the multipler that would be stupid even if the motherboard allowed it. a 450Mhz CPU being overclocked to a 733? That's over 150% of it's factory speed...My friend overclocked that high before.... as high as it would go. It was a huge overclock and it did actually boot. Not SAYING it was stable thoughI'd say It would be a waste of time to go that high. My K6-2, for example, could barely keep cool at it's factory speed, so I never could bring myself to move that jumper from x3.5 to x4.0...I don't want to overclock. I have purchased a 733MHz CPU. I will take it that if the motherboard supports it I can install the faster CPU. Ohh go AHEAD then install itwhaaaaaaaa!
