Solve : Upgraded my GPU now my computer won't start?

Answer»

I tried to upgrade my gpu but I was stupid and didn't bother unplugging my computer or turning my psu off first and I didn't UNINSTALL any of the hardware or drivers ahead of time. Now when I turn my computer on my screen just stays black. The fans all spin and the lights come on but that's it. I tried to reinstall my old gpu and it did the same thing. Then I tried to reset my bios, used different power cables, and switched pci-e slots but still no change. Did I just wreck my computer??? Help:(When booting, does your monitor have power?

Did you properly connect the cable from your monitor to your VGA card?Quote from: geek hoodlum on January 18, 2011, 11:13:25 PM

Are you saying that the computer was on when you installed the card?Quote from: JJ 3000 on January 18, 2011, 11:28:42 PM

Not "on", but there was power going to the motherboard.
I know, it was a retarded mistake. I guess that's what I get for trying to install hardware while sleep deprived...UPDATE: I just tried to boot my computer with no gpu installed and there were no error beeps. Does that mean my motherboard isn't working right?Quote from: Reiray on January 19, 2011, 12:54:48 AM

Actually never mind that last part. I never attached the speaker to my motherboard :/I attached my speaker but it still doesn't beep when I remove the RAM or gpu. What model is your GPU? Does it require an extra power cable from the PSU, and is that plugged in? Quote from: A.A.5 on January 20, 2011, 12:41:25 PM

It's a Radeon HD 3870x2, so yeah, it takes two power cords. I've tried STARTING my computer without the gpu installed and it still does the same thing though(restarts after a couple of seconds of startup, no us devices turn on, ...etc.)Quote
