Hey guys I'll cut to the chase: Today I inserted a GIG chip into the laptop (inspiron 9100) and also cleaned out the fans.When I booted it up I got a message saying ram was detected.Now the problem happens when i log on: the cpu usage is up in the 90's when I click on SOMETHING and the fans are constantly whirring, sounding like a hover! When I let the pc idle the task manager is empty but the fans are STILL whirring,then I click on something the usage flies back up.Whatever program I run seems to use excessive amounts of cpu.Example is when i run wmp it could take anywhere from 10% to 70%!!!!!Ram is detected and all! First I THOUGH it could of been faulty ram so I re-inserted the orignal 512mb and the pc usage is still up!This is getting annoying to say the least! So any ideas on whats wrong or how to fix this?
Note: I opened up the computer and removed dust clumps that looked like dead rats.Started up laptop again and its not as bad but STILL uses too much resources for anything.Im nearly certain that when cleaning the fans I blew dust into the heatsink......(sigh)time to look again.Where did you get the RAM and what exactly did you get (not just the speed, please)?
