Solve : Upgrading CPU in a Gateway 820 GM desktop?

Answer» here are the specs for this PC.
I got this PC without any hard drive installed. I'll buy a HD tommorrow to see if everything else works OK. If so what is the best CPU to install on this motherboard. Will it support a socket 775 dual CORE or quad core? The PC has already been upgraded to 4gb memory and an Antec 650 watt power supply.
UNFORTUNATELY you're stuck with single core processors, as the chipset for that board does not support even a dual-core...

This is probably your best bet:

Go with the Pent. 4 660 LGA 775

3.6 GHz and 2 MB of L2 cache

Since the MB will not support a dual or Q core, I suppose I'll just stay with the P4 3.0 Ghz CPU it has now. I can't see the justification for spending the $ for .6 Ghz.
I didn't get a chance to get the HD today but will post back when I get it up and running.
Thanks for the help EEVIAC.
no problem... let me know how the new HDD works out...
