Solve : Upgrading memory ....is it worth it??

I have a Toshiba Satellite 2410-303 laptop , 1.7ghz , 30gb hdd ,, with Nvidea 32mb graphics and 512mb system memory.

i WANT my games to run smoother ....

i REALISE i cannot upgrade the graphics CARD , but what if i upgraded the system memory to 1024mb ?

would this make any real  :-/DIFFERENCE to my laptop PERFORMANCE ..........or should i just buy an updated spec laptop with higher memory dedicated graphics?

its the difference between £100 on memory or £500 for a new machine i suppose.......

Thanks for your advice , i just went out and bought a new notebook with 128mb graphics instead , a 17" 3ghz , 80gb , 512mb , gs900 from tiny , hopefully that will do what i want.!!!!
