Solve : USB external modem? |
|
Answer» A message appears saying that my D-link type DU-562M USB external modem is not available whenever I plugged in my lexmark Z25 printer to a vacant USB port of my AMD Sempron LE-1200, 2.11 Ghz 896 MB RAM desktop computer. I am using windows XP 2002 version. I need to remove both the printer and the modem's drivers and then re-install back the modem's drivers before I can use it again. There is no error message from the device manager. This trouble only appear after I log out from my internet connection and logging on again the next time. I am using a dial-up internet connection. Thanks in advance for your help.Does this phenomenon occur if the printer is plugged into the USB port but NOT turned on? truenorthThe printer was disconnected. There is an error message saying Error 633 "the modem is already in use or is not configured PROPERLY". I removed the programs of both the modem and the printer from the control panel's add or removed programs. Then, I inserted back the CD software for the modem and the modem worked again. I need to do this everytime after I finished using the printer. So as i understand it if you were not ever to use the printer the modem would work fine? If the same occurs if you were to use the printer and not have the modem plugged (this is a possibility given you say that your modem is external) the same result would occur? That being so there is either a conflict between the drivers for the 2 devices or a problem with how the USB PORTS try to deal with the 2 devices when both are plugged in. What type of modem is this were talking about--i don't mean the brand. I assuming this problem has always existed since the 2 were 1st brought together on this computer? I am also assuming that you have gone to the web sites of the manufacturers of both devices to ensure that you have the latest drivers? Have you moved the devices to the various usb ports you have available? Specifically one front one rear if you have that option. Perchance is either device connected through a USB hub? truenorthI had tried using different USB ports with the same result. I got no problem using the printer whether the modem is plugged in or not. It seems that the printer is always TAKING over the connection that the modem was using. I have not yet checked the modem maker's website. I will try to do it and I will keep you inform until this problem is solved. Accoding to the modem's package, it is V.92 56K Data Fax USB Modem. In the meantime, I am using an old laptop computer for the printer.Rhaindlhiz,While at the moment it is a bit premature to adopt another suggestion i am about to provide it can be borne in mind should your attempt at "modem driver update" not be the solution. When i used to be on dial up i too had a variety of problems associated with 56k modems. It seems the cheaper they were the more LIKELY the problems. Not that the more expensive ones were dramatically more costly.I have had no experience with external dial up modems however. Mine were always PCI internals. The very best one i ever used was an internal US Robotics 56k V92 data/fax unit. My new solution should it become necessary is to replace the modem. If you don't have any specific must have reason to have an external i would suggest a US Robotics PCI internal. The internal will be about 1/2 the price of the external and easier to FIND. It is now becoming more difficult to find dial up modems as high speed is becoming much more available. But they can still be found.anyway something to concider for the future. goodluck, truenorth |
