Answer» I have a 4gb memory stick but when i try copying a 200mb+ file it give me an error saying "Cannot copy file "name" The path is too deep."Make a directory on your hard drive of the name of your choice. Make a directory on your hard drive of the name of your choice. the instuction are very correct. but...one thing that slightly confuses me. i thought he was trying to extract the file(s), not copy it to his mem.stick. Ooops sorry i meant copy.Ok Patio. I just tried it and it gives me this error. Cannot copy "file" : The parameter is incorrect.Quote from: Sashimi on September 09, 2007, 01:47:01 AM Ooops sorry i meant copy. You can change it from extract to copy by pressing edit, so that members who view the topic will know what's going on, instead of having to read down.is the file you want to copy in a folder which is in another folder, which is in another folder etc etc? if it is, try moving the file out of those folders and put it in the root of your mem.stick. then try copying it.Quote from: Sashimi on September 09, 2007, 01:48:56 AM Ok Patio. I just tried it and it gives me this error. Cannot copy "file" : The parameter is incorrect. Be more specific...how are you attempting to "copy" the file ? ? Are you using a command prompt to do this ? ? If so we WOULD need to see that as Sylvia is on Holiday...Firstly i go to the files directory, click on the file, ctrl+c. Then i go back into my USB's drive and ctrl+v Ok JXY i just tried your method and i thought it would work cuz the progress bar ACTUALLY started to move but after 1 bar of the progress it gives me this error: Cannot copy "file": The path is too deep. I copied the file from desktop!!Quote Firstly i go to the files directory, click on the file, ctrl+c. Then i go back into my USB's drive and ctrl+v Re-read my instructions above...there is a limit to how many characters can be allowed in a path and there is also a limit to how many layers deep a file can be moved to in certain OS's... One of these has been exceeded in your case. Move it to a directory with 1 name before you try to copy it to another drive... Also why not just right click the file and select copy and point it to where you need it to land ? ? Using the keyboard commands involves the clipboard and SINCE the file is 200MG this MAY be part of the issue as well. What OS is this by the way ? ?I'm using Windows XP Pro 2002 on Service Pack 2. I actually did move it to my desktop then proceeding with the instructions i gave. But i will try once again.wait.....you're copying a file TO the mem.stick FROM the desktop rite>? Yes that's right. I've also tried my documents.I don't think the problem is where you're copying it from, but where you're copying it to. Like patio said there are limits on how long a directory path can be. Try copying to somewhere else on the stick, like the root of it. |
