Solve : USB Memory stick?

Answer»

Hi, I have been given a Sony 8gb Microvault memory stick which the computer "sees" when I plug it in as a Removable Disk but when I try to access it, it says Please Insert a Disk into the Drive.

Do I NEED special drivers or program to be able to use it.

Regards,

DaveDoes it LOOK like this?

What is the model number?Hi Diasverano,
Thanks for the reply, it doesn't look like that. It is sort of elongated oval shape and only has Sony and MICRO VAULT USB 2 on the case, when you take the protective end piece off, under the plastic it says 8gb.

Regards,

DaveHi Again Dias,

Since sending the above reply I've Googled the Sony and it looks as if it's an old model as all the pictures of Sony USB drives have square ends, mine as I say has rounded ends and is not flat it is oval in shape and about 60mm long and 25mm acroos

Regards,

DaveDoes it work on other machines ? ?
Do you already have data on there ?

Some USB sticks have a tiny micro switch on them for security purposes...look closely they are easy to miss.hi Patio,
I've not GOT another machine to try it on and I've no idea if there is anything on it as the computer just ask's to insert a disk, I've looked closely at the thing and there doesn't appear to be any sort on switch etc.

DaveSounds like it could be faulty. Perhaps that is why you were given it.Thats a possibility Dias!,
So really I don't need drivers for USB Memory sticks and if they don't work then they are PROBABLY faulty.

Anyway thanks for your help,

Regards

DaveNo it shouldn't need drivers unless it's an older OS like Win98 or ME...
Try it on another machine before you bin it...OK Patio,

Thanks

USB sticks can and do fail. The flash memory can "wear out" and the chip inside can blow.
