I have just purchased HP Compaq nx 7010 laptop with windows xp. I installed software for my digital camera Nikon coolpix. When I connected this camera to USB port the screen turned black and I have to restart the computer. After that all USB ports stopped functioning. So external keyboard, mouse etc. connected stopped working. I tried to update driver for usb, but couldn,t. when I reattach mouse it says there is unrecognized device. In device manager, under usb port controllers, there is unknown device. I tried to restore system, but without any result. So please help.Why can you not uppdate your drivers? Any error messages?

[glb]Flame[/glb]i have driver recovery cd along with this laptop. should i try that. noerror messeges except when i connect optical mouse to usb it says device not recognised.First, I SUGGEST contacting your computer manufacturer to see if the CD even has the drivers on it... You don't want to waste your time, just to see that the drivers were not on the CD... Tell your computer manufacturer that you have the CD, and ask if the drivers for the USB ports are on it, and if so, how to install them...

[glb]Flame[/glb]i contacted the manufacturer. they suggested some downloads. also i read that electrostatic current can disable usb ports. i experience this as i got mild shock when itouched the camera.Maybe..... MIGHT want to have the computer looked at the next time you go to a computer store...

[glb]Flame[/glb]i updated bios, windows update, uninstalled usb controllers and reinstalled, but without any benefit. i think i should reinstall the windows.i reinstalled the windows, updated all drivers, but nothing helped. finally i TOOK it to the service centre. lets see what they do.they changed the mother board as it was under warranty and every thing was ok.I wouldn't trust that camera...is it still under warranty BTW ? ?
If so return it.Wow...not too many people post back with an update two years later.I just wanted to reply to this old post so that people should know that dont wear any footware while working on computer, so that the electostatic current developed will not affetc ur computer. from my experience i learned that i used to get shock only when i sed RUBBER slippers and not after WEARING them. all the best.
