Solve : USB power management after shutdown?

Answer»

So a few weeks ago, i finally upgraded my gaming PC to windows 10 and now once i shut my PC down, it continues to feed power to my USB ASus wireless station. How can i disable that feature? The light stays on and the USB keeps powering both my back light keyboard and my Wifi Hub. My specs are as follows
AMD 8120FX CPU
Asus M5A97 motherboard
Kingston Hyperx ( i think) 2x 4gb sticks
1TB WD black
MSI 6870 hawk twin frozer card.
windows 10 Pro

Thanks
Hi

Enter into bios and enable EuP .
EUP is a special low-power mode that disables certain features to conserve energy when the computer is in off state.
This will turn off usb charging

If you wish to charge devices with the power turned off you maybe able to find usb ports that don't do usb charging.

You can find the ports easily by swapping your usb devices to different ports with the computer powered down until you find ones that don't power the devices.Greetings,

Ive tried looking for that feature but have been unsuccessful in the past. I was also told to go into USB power management under devices and was not able to find such a thing either. Ive also tried all the USB ports on the system. I have 6 2.0 Rear ones, plus 2x 3.0 rear and then another 2 of each on the front.

I was able to find a EPU Power saving mode and enabling that gave me another drop down that says "EPU settings" and i have options like "Auto, light power saving mode, medium power saving mode, and Max power saving mode" Currently set to auto. Is that what im looking for?

Yes that is what you are looking for,Max power saving modeAlright, That hopefully will not affence the machines performance now will it?
No it has no effect on computer performance.
I set it to Max power saver the way you suggested yet is still leaves the Asus Wireless adapter light on. Its odd, because when i had windows 7 on this machine i did not have this issue. Ive done no BIOS updates only updated to windows 10 Pro. Memory lapse i'm afraid...it likely did it still on 7 you just don't recall...

See Here...What happens if you go into the BIOS → Advanced → Disable Asmedia USB 3.0 Charging Support?
If I recall, the above overrides EPU if enabled.
From the link given by Patio.

I just tape over any LEDs on my stuff, there are so many that it pretty much lights up the ROOM

The amount of energy used is tiny, so it was probably a design decision to make the feature more easily accessible to more people

Funny thing is, thats off. Should i use the USB 3.0 port for this device? Tried that too and still no go. Perhaps i should update my BIOS? Quote from: comda on February 14, 2016, 05:22:27 PM

No. Just leave it alone.
Do you really, really need to turn off all power?
Do you worry about the Electric bill?
Do you fear somebody might remote  yhour PC at 3 am?
If so, get a clock timer for your power strip. Set it for the times your normally use the PC, plus or minus a half hour. This is a safe way to control total power use to your workstation. (Burt the clock timer itself consumes 5 watts.)
Why are you against me UPDATING my BIOS? The Asus page states it has updates and fixes.
And none of those. the Light just BOTHERS me Guess im sorta OCD? i dunno. I know for a fact it didnt do this before because lights bother me at night. i used to have my Power Bar hidden behind my desk so i couldnt see the light. I got a new desk and also updated to windows 10. At first i didnt notice the light because i setup my desk one way but then i did once i set it up another way. ive been turning off the power bar at night but it still annoys me to have it running when the computer is not in useIf you update the BIOS it may be much more than annoying. Some older boards have not easy way to undo a bad BIOS update.
You can put some CHEWING GUN over the LED. Quick, easy, free and reversible.
