Answer» I have a brand new Toshiba Satellite A75-S231, and I am trying to connecti it to a data logger on a racecar. The logger requires a serial connection, so I purchased a Belkin USB to Serial converter. When I try to download data from the racecar to the laptop, the computer freezes completely, Ctrl-Alt-Delete does not work. This set up works fine on my desktop computer, either connected directly to the serial port, or with the Belkin unit. It also works with an ancient laptop, HELP!!!!!!!!!Do you need a SPECIFIC program to upload the data?
[glb]Flame[/glb]Yes, and I have the program installed on the computer. It is a Racepak technologies program, and I have spoken with both Racepak, and Toshiba without much success.Judging on how old this program sounds, I want to ask you this question... Have you checked to make sure that this program would be compatible with your new laptop? If it is an old program, you might need to buy the new version... OR get a patch from the internet... (The manufacturer of the software's website)
[glb]Flame[/glb]The program is a brand new one, with the newest version of software, the desktop computer that it runs on is also brand new, and the laptop is brand new, at first I thought the problem was RELATED to the laptop, and I exchanged it, but am having the same problem with this new laptop. What about compatibiliity? Have you checked to make sure that everything looks like it is compatible? The other possibility is that the car is not compatible...
[glb]Flame[/glb]The manufacturer of the Racepak software says that they have had no problems interfacing with any computer that complies with their spec sheets, and this computer exceeds all of their requirements (the program runs properly on the old laptop which does NOT meet their requirements). As far as the new computers, both operate on Windows XP home edition, service pack 2, so that should not be an issue. I see... Very interesting... I'll be honest with you.... I don't really know what is wrong with it.... The only other theory that I have is that there is something up with the car... However, I would rather someone else on this forum such as dl65, or some other forum user to have a look at this, becuase I don't want to send you down the wrong path, that could dig you a deeper hole... Sorry I couldn't be of any more assistance to you!
[glb]Flame[/glb]The saga goes on. After spending most of the day looking at the Toshiba, Belkin, and Microsoft websites, a random search turned up a couple instances where mention was made of the same Belkin USB to Serial Adaptor being incompatible with the Toshiba 5500 series computer. I contacted the store where I bought the laptop and the adapter, and they ARRANGED for me to bring in the computer and try a port replicator and a serial device - it worked, and once I returned home, it also worked with the data logger and program for the racecar. You would THINK that during my calls to Toshiba and Belkin this issue might have come up, but I guess tech support isn't what it used to be!WELL.... I'm glad to see that the issue was resolved anyway!
