Solve : USB to VGA adapter - Any Suggestions???

Answer»

Morning everyone.

I purchased this device a couple of weeks ago (not from this site but same product). http://www.buyextras.com/betusb20tosv.html

At work, I cannot get this device to work on my workstation.

Dell Optiplex 745 - XP Pro

I get the software installed, reboot then plug it in. Everything starts up like it should. I get the system tray Icon and settings under "Display Properties" can see it. But, every time I try and expand the desktop onto the other monitor it just flashes and kicks it back off. I have tried to expand the desktop, mirror it and default it to that device. Each time it just flashes and kicks back to where it already was. There are no even LOGS in event viewer.

I have tried it on one of my employee's computers and it works fine.

HP Compaq D530C - XP Pro

It also works on my home computers just fine.

Now, a third computer at work has the same results as my dell. It's also a workstation (compacted). I can't provide system info on that comp cause it's way ACROSS the building. I'm thinking it has to have something to do with installing the hardware on a workstation. Maybe it can't handle the device or something. I purchased this device personally so I don't WANT to CALL IT in. They have approved it but won't support it (can't blame em).

So, any suggestions? If I left something out please feel free to ask. Thanks in advance! You might want to try contacting the manufacturer support for that USB device.

In the mean time though, do you already have an extra video card installed in the PC that has trouble with it? Could be a conflict of some kind there.
Are you sure you have it plugged into a USB 2.0 slot?
Do you have the latest version of any drivers it uses? After reading the specs (I just ordered me one, thanks. Haven't seen one of those before), the first thing I would check is your USBspeed. It has to be 2.0 compliant. If the computer is running USB 1.0 then that would case your problem. Check that out and let us know. The bad part of forum sites, we posted at the same time. But at least we agree with each other. TheEmporer's is just better worded! Thanks for your help guys. I should have said some of this at first.

I have contacted the vendor twice via email form on their site. They will not respond (go figure....).

I did think about USB versions but am confident this crap Dell has 2.0. I have tried every USB port on the  computer.

I went to device manager and updated the driver then rebooted again. Still doing the same thing. it's the same version of driver off of the manufacturers site.

I'm still thinking it has something to do with this Dell being a workstation. It doesn't have any expansion slots (pci, pci e, etc...). It's very compact and basic. I'll keep digging. Let me know if you have anything else.  What model Dell is it?Dell Optiplex 745 - XP Pro

I did notice that the front ports be be in some kind of have cocked disable mode. Make sure you have them plugged into the back of the machine. If that doesn't work and you really want to use this, maybe IT could swap your computer out for a model you know works. Beyond that I could not find any real specs for the device that could help figure out what is going wrong.

Sorry.

ChrisI agree Chrisxs5. I have tried the back ports as well. I think I will need to swap my computers. I called in IT yesterday just to make sure I wasn't crazy. After an hour they quit (haha). I know what computer I can get here at work to use this. It's just one monitor would be CRT and    I don't want CRT. LOL

But, I may have to suck it up. I'm just going to blame Dell.

Ok, case closed. I really appreciate everyones help. Wanted to make sure I wasn't crazy.

Cheers!Best of luck to you and thanks for pointing out the device, 2 other people here at the office have ordered one as well, so we cant wait to play them ourselves.Glad to spread the word. I hope it works out better for you guys.
