Answer»

k i just had this crazy idea to stick a fan like this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/16-ELECTRIC-COOLING-FAN-PRO-SERIES-RADIATOR-STREET-ROD_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ34201QQihZ016QQitemZ260010574909QQrdZ1 on the side of my tower casing so would this work theoretically? if not is 120mm the biggest tower fan i can get? whats some alternativse? You need to get out more. If you're serious...

I'd imagine this thing draws many more amps at 12 volts than a standard computer fan. They don't say what it draws. You probably wouldn't want it hooked up to your computer's power supply. A SEPARATE 12V power supply with a high enough amp rating to run it would bring the cost way up.

If you're REALLY looking for a powerful case fan, an equipment cooling fan that runs off 120V AC would be a better choice because you could plug it straight into the wall for power. Also, they tend to be as small, though much more powerful than computer fans, allowing you to aim the airflow where it will do some good. A fan with more airflow that's smaller can be more effective than a larger fan with the same airflow. The trend towards larger fans is mainly to achieve the same airflow as smaller fans at lower RPMs with less noise.

PS... I see now that they say it draws 10 - 12 amps. WAY past the capabilities of a computer power supply. An external 12V power supply capable of 10 - 12 amps WOULD be pricey. This thing would probably suck parts off of your mainboard and shoot them out at you!!!Quote
