Solve : Using Work Computer as Home PC by swapping out HD's? |
|
Answer» Ok, I was told that I could remove the hard drive from my work laptop and put in the same model drive and basically use the laptop as my own personal PC without anyone being the wiser? My work laptop HD is fairly secure meaning all the ports are shut down and you can load any software on it without direct IT helpdesk intervention. Hence, its fairly useless to me other than for PURE work when I am traveling. This means I have to lug around two computers which sucks not just for the added weight, but twice the pain going through security etc. My friend told me the rest of the computer (other than the HD) is basically a brick and doesn't store any info anywhere?! I want to be certain this is the case before going to buy ANOTHER HD, install software etc, and of course risk getting in trouble at work! Can you please confirm/deny?This isn't my site, but if it were I'd tell you to check with your boss and ask his opinion. I'd then close down this thread. But as I said, it's not my site.Right, well I dint think my boss is any sort of IT expert and its not like I am trying to do something insidious. I think there is no way information from one drive could harm the other as they would never be connected and to the "net" my personal drive would look like any of my other computers! |
