Answer» I am using an pavillion laptop with xp / I use my laptop mainly at home but occaisionally use it at my OFFICE. The only problem is that as I am using it in my office the computer screen will go to vertical bar lines or a light blue screen. I will not be able to do anything with it and have to reboot. this will happen maybe every 5 minutes or not happen for an hour or so. this only happens at my office an has NEVER happen anywhere else as I have taken this laptop to other countries as well as other states.
It does not matter if the battery is on charge or not, if I am using the internet by cat 5 or wireless. It only happens in my office and only this computer, as we have other computers and it never happens to them.
I do not get it, any one have an answer or have any one heard of this.
Confused !tennacres, Very strange problem! Does this phenomenon only occur when you are "on line' or does it also happen if you are not connected to the internet? Interference would be my normal suspicion however given that it is so random as to when it can occur that sounds unlikely.Do you have the ability to try it in a different LOCATION within the same building?truenorthThanks for the reply.
It is a small office and I have tried it in different rooms. It does not matter if you are on line or not and has never happens anywhere but there.
I brought the laptop to my office for the first time in about 6 months and with in about 60 minutes, bang the screen went to vertical bars.
Like I said only there, and not on any of the desk tops that are in use.
Just strange, but need to understand it so that I can fix it.Are you running a certain PROGRAM when it happens that you dont normally run anywhere besides the office? No, I do not do anything different. Same programs etc.
I once thought it was the wireless internet, but I went to cat 5 and turn off the wireless. Tried different electrical outlets.
Just don't knowGiven the great multitude of variables where the computer DOES work and the uniqueness of the conditions under which it acts up i would have to say (and it is certainly a guess at this point) it must be an environmental issue associated with your specific laptop and the office environment. What that could entail i have no idea. Given that it does NOT malfunction anywhere else i cannot logically see how it can be anything else now that "cruisin 702's thought has been eliminated. I suspect the answer will be "no" but do you use any add on hardware at the office (like a an external HDD or flash drive) that you use only there? truenorthBuddy,
The only thing that is diiferent is the location. But, what could this be to EFFECT the graghic or video out put.
Magnetic, electrical, evil sprits.
Why only there, and only this laptop. Just very strangeI just don't think that laptop likes going to work with you... As you said...it's fine everywhere else...I agree with truenorth, RF interference would be my first guess.
Are there any business near your office that use high power equipment like MRI's, are there any airports or military bases that use high powered radar? Any large antennas like TV towers, or radio stations?
I can only guess that your laptop isn't shielded as well as the desktops.
